Digital sovereignty: Switzerland's position in the data-based world

The debate on sovereignty arose in the context of territorially defined nation states. But the data-based, digital world does without these geographical borders. What does this mean for Switzerland?

In cooperation with Innovate Switzerland and digitalswitzerland, the Swiss Data Alliance wants to contribute to the debate. Various stakeholders will have their say.

In May 2023, the community of Innovate Switzerland published a position paper with six areas of action to ensure Switzerland's digital sovereignty. Stefan Pabst, Senior Project Manager at the think tank W.I.R.E., was the main author of the document.

 

Christian Laux

In 2022, the Swiss Data Alliance published a concept paper on data sovereignty, a sub-area of digital sovereignty. A white paper on the topic is currently in progress. Christian Laux, Vice President of the Swiss Data Alliance, was in charge of both projects.
