Data Commons for Switzerland (Online Event)

Perspectives for data collaborations beyond market and state

With the research of Nobel Prize winner and economist Elinor Ostrom, the concept of «Commons» has received new attention. The collaborative management of a shared resource can also be applied to data.

In his online presentation, André Golliez, President of the Swiss Data Alliance, explains how the commons approach can be applied to data collaborations. The starting point is a study on the collaborative management of geodata, which was carried out by the Swiss Data Alliance on behalf of the Conference of Cantonal Geoinformation and Cadastral Offices (KGK).

From the KGK, Hans-Andrea Veraguth, Cantonal Surveyor of Grisons, outlines the necessity and possible future scenarios for «Geocommons» in Switzerland. Tom Kleiber, Managing Director of SWITCH, will also shed light on the great relevance of digital commons for education, research and innovation in Switzerland.
