Definition: Data ecosystem
A data ecosystem is (from a macroeconomic perspective) an overall system in which data is exchanged across the boundaries of individual organizations.
Exchange across organizational boundaries can be structured or ad hoc, optimized or subject to high transaction costs or similar hurdles. If the data ecosystem is based on efficient structures (namely data rooms), efficiency gains can be achieved that create tangible benefits at the macroeconomic level and for the actors involved. One such advantage can be the strengthening of digital self-determination while enabling data use.
Swiss data ecosystem
The Swiss data ecosystem is the data ecosystem that operates within the territory of Switzerland. The Swiss data ecosystem coordinates data spaces across various specialist contexts and promotes legal, organizational, semantic, and technical interoperability between participants; common guidelines apply within the ecosystem and data spaces.
